Document ReaderUsing the app
Document Reader lets you view, search, organise and share documents on your device, scan paper documents, and convert, combine, fill in, sign and protect PDFs. You may use it for personal and professional purposes in line with these terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from.
Your content
You are responsible for the documents you open, scan, create, rename, share, print or delete, and for having the right to use them. Deleting or renaming a file changes it on your device and cannot always be undone, so keep backups of important documents.
Document display
PDFs are shown with your device's PDF engine. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RTF and text files are converted for reading, and so is Office to PDF; fonts, layout, charts and other objects may look different from the original or be left out. Always check the original file where accuracy matters.
Scanning & text recognition
The document scanner finds, crops and cleans up pages from your camera automatically; check that every page is complete and readable before you rely on a scan. Text recognition (OCR) can make mistakes, so check recognised text before relying on it. A searchable PDF keeps the scanned pages as they are and adds the recognised text invisibly behind them, so searching or copying text from it is only as accurate as the recognition. When you scan a QR code or barcode, the app shows what the code contains but does not check where a link leads or whether its content is safe: check the full address before you open it. You are responsible for the content of QR codes you create.
Tools
Tools save their results as new files and leave your original unchanged, unless you choose to delete it. Fill & Sign writes the values you type into a PDF's form fields and places your text, ticks, dates and an image of your drawn or typed signature on its pages. The signature is an electronic signature, not a certificate-based digital signature, and whether it is accepted depends on who receives the document. A password you set with Lock PDF cannot be recovered by us or by the app: if you forget it, the locked copy cannot be opened. If you choose to delete the unlocked original after locking, keep the password safe, because the locked copy is then the only one. PDF to DOCX, including Editable DOCX after a scan, recreates the text, headings, bold and italic of a PDF; its exact layout, images and tables are not kept, so check the result. Compress PDF makes files smaller by lowering the quality of their images. Highlights, notes and drawings are kept in the app until you save an annotated copy, which draws them permanently into a new PDF.
In-app purchases & subscriptions
Pro is an optional upgrade that unlocks the Pro tools and features, such as text recognition (OCR), searchable PDFs from scans, unlimited PDF to DOCX, signatures in Fill & Sign, Lock PDF and strong compression. Reading documents, scanning, annotations, filling in forms and the other tools are free; PDF to DOCX (including Editable DOCX after a scan) is free for 2 files a day. Pro is sold as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase; prices are shown in the app by the store in your local currency. Payment is charged to your Google Play or Apple account when you confirm the purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; after cancelling, Pro stays active until the paid period ends. If a free trial is offered, it becomes a paid subscription automatically when it ends unless you cancel before then. Manage or cancel subscriptions in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions) or, on iPhone and iPad, in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Use Restore purchases to turn Pro back on with the same store account on a new device. Refunds are handled by Google or Apple under their own policies. On Apple devices, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of data or damages arising from its use.
Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.
