Summary: Document Reader is a PDF and document reader that works entirely on your device. We do not collect, store, sell or share any personal data, and the app has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no internet access of its own. Optional Pro purchases are handled entirely by Google Play or the App Store.
Your files
The app reads the PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TXT and RTF files on your device so it can list and open them. Files are opened, searched, renamed, shared, printed or deleted only when you ask, and they never leave your device unless you choose to share or print them through your device's own share or print features.
Files you create
Tools such as Image to PDF, Document scanner, PDF to JPG, PDF to DOCX, Merge, Split, Organize pages, Compress PDF, Fill & Sign and Lock save their results as new files on your device (on Android in Documents › Document Reader, on iPhone and iPad in the app's Documents folder); so does Save annotated PDF. Your original file is never changed. Photos you convert or scan for text are chosen with your system's photo picker, which only gives the app the images you select. Passwords you enter to lock or unlock a PDF are used once to process the file and are never stored.
Scanning & text recognition
Document scanning, text recognition (OCR, also used by PDF to DOCX for scanned pages) and QR and barcode reading run on your device. On Android these features use Google's ML Kit, provided through Google Play services; your images and text are processed on the device and are not sent to us or to Google. Google Play services may send Google limited diagnostic information about how these components perform, under Google's own privacy policy. On iPhone and iPad, Apple's on-device frameworks are used.
Data stored on your device
To remember your preferences the app keeps a small amount of data locally: favorites, the folders and tags you create and which documents are in them, recently opened documents, the last page you read, the highlights, underlines, notes and drawings you add to documents, signatures you choose to save, your theme and reading settings, whether Pro is active, and a cache of converted document pages. This data stays on your device, is never uploaded, and is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
In-app purchases & subscriptions
Document Reader Pro is optional. Purchases, subscriptions and free trials are processed by Google Play or Apple's App Store under their own terms and privacy policies. We never see or store your payment details, name or email address: the app only asks the store whether Pro is active and keeps that answer on your device so Pro also works offline. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and a free trial becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then. You can cancel at any time in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions) or, on iPhone and iPad, in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
Permissions
On Android the app asks for access to your files (All files access on Android 11 and later, or storage permission on older versions) so it can find documents across your device. On iOS the app only sees files you import or open with it. The camera is used only when you choose to scan: reading QR codes and barcodes, and scanning paper documents. Camera images are processed on your device and are never recorded, stored or uploaded. You can revoke access at any time in your device settings.
Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here with a new date.
